Rolled Canvas Prints: Same Premium Canvas, More Ways to Display It for Less
Share
A rolled canvas print gives you the look and texture of a custom photo canvas without paying for wooden stretcher bars, stretching labor, or an outer frame. At Sunshine Canvas, your image is printed on the same premium photo canvas used for our finished canvas pieces and protected with standard hand-applied varnish. The difference is in how it arrives: flat, unframed and unstretched, ready for you to mount or display your own way.
That makes rolled canvas prints one of the most flexible and cost-effective ways to turn a favorite photo, wedding image, family portrait, pet photo, travel picture or original artwork into something physical.
On select large sizes, you can save 50% or more compared with a ready-to-hang stretched canvas while still getting the same premium photo canvas and standard varnish.

What is a rolled canvas print?
A rolled canvas print is your photograph printed directly onto canvas, trimmed to the exact size you order and supplied without stretcher bars or a floating frame. You still get the texture and character of canvas, plus protective varnish, but you decide what happens next.
You can mount it to a rigid board, place it in a traditional frame, build a display wall, use hanging rails, or incorporate smaller sizes into a keepsake project. Because the print is not stretched over wood before shipping, you are not paying for the extra materials and labor involved in a ready-to-hang canvas.
Our rolled prints are supplied at the ordered dimensions with no extra wrap or stretching allowance. If you want a finished canvas already stretched over wood and ready to hang, choose our custom ready-to-hang canvas prints instead.
The same photo and varnish quality, with less framing cost
Choosing rolled canvas does not mean choosing a lower-grade image. Your photo is still printed on canvas and receives standard varnish. What you are removing from the price is the structure around the print: stretcher bars, stretching, assembly and optional floating framing.
That difference becomes especially noticeable at larger sizes.
| 40 × 60 option | Current Sunshine Canvas price |
|---|---|
| Ready-to-hang gallery-wrapped canvas | $599 |
| Rolled canvas print | $249 |
Save 50% or more on select large canvas sizes
For that 40 × 60 example, choosing rolled canvas saves $350—about 58% compared with the $599 ready-to-hang gallery-wrapped version—before you decide how you want to mount or frame it. We also now offer a 36 × 48 rolled canvas for $199.
The exact savings vary by size, but large rolled canvas prints can dramatically reduce the cost when you do not need stretcher bars or a finished frame.
Standard U.S. shipping and standard varnish are included in the displayed rolled-canvas prices. An optional Diamond varnish finish adds 15%.
Five ways to display an unframed canvas print
1. Mount it to Gatorboard or another rigid panel
For a clean, lightweight presentation, a rolled canvas can be mounted to Gatorboard, foam board, hardboard or another suitable rigid panel. This can work well for offices, hotels, temporary displays, trade projects, photography presentations and large wall graphics where a traditional stretched frame is not necessary.
If you are mounting a large print, use a mounting method appropriate for canvas and the board you choose. A professional framer or sign shop can also help with larger pieces.
2. Frame it behind glass
A rolled canvas does not have to look casual. You can take it to a framer and place it in a traditional wood, black, gold or decorative frame. Glass is optional depending on the look you want and the framing method used.
This is especially useful when you already have a frame you love, want to match existing décor, or prefer a more traditional presentation than a gallery-wrapped canvas.
3. Create a cork-board or photo-wall display
Smaller canvas prints are ideal for creative displays. Arrange family pictures, travel photos, pet portraits or artwork on a cork board or other display surface and change the arrangement whenever you want.
This is one reason rolled prints can work especially well for renters, students, home offices and anyone who likes to refresh their wall without buying a new framed piece every time.
4. Hang a large canvas from rails or the ceiling
For retail displays, events, lofts, photography shows or creative interiors, a large canvas can be suspended using your own clamp rails, hanging bars, cords or display hardware. This gives the canvas a completely different character from a traditional stretched print and can make very large sizes easier to work with.
Use secure hardware appropriate for the size, weight and surface where the display will hang.
5. Use smaller prints in albums and keepsake projects
Our smallest rolled sizes can also be used in albums, scrapbooks and memory projects that have enough room for the extra thickness of canvas. A set of family photos, wedding memories or travel images can become something tactile instead of remaining only on a phone.
Why rolled canvas is especially useful for large prints
Large wall art is where the savings and flexibility become most obvious. A large stretched canvas needs a wooden support structure strong enough to keep the canvas square and tensioned. It also takes more labor to stretch, finish, protect and ship.
A rolled canvas removes that structure. If you already know you want to mount the image to a board, install it in a custom frame, use it in a commercial project or build your own display, paying for stretching first may not make sense.
Sunshine Canvas now offers rolled prints up to 40 × 60 inches, including:
- 36 × 48 rolled canvas — $199
- 40 × 60 rolled canvas — $249

Who are rolled canvas prints best for?
Rolled or unframed canvas prints are a strong choice when you:
- want a more affordable way to print a large photo on canvas
- already own a frame or plan to use a local framer
- want to mount the print to Gatorboard, hardboard or another panel
- need lightweight artwork for a hotel, office, event or trade project
- want a flexible photo wall or cork-board display
- prefer to choose your own hanging system
- want the look and texture of canvas without paying for a stretched frame
Rolled canvas vs. ready-to-hang canvas: which should you choose?
Choose a ready-to-hang custom canvas when you want the work completed for you. We print the image, stretch it over wooden bars, varnish it and prepare it as a finished wall piece. You can also add a black or gold floating frame.
Choose a rolled canvas print when you want more control over the final presentation or want to reduce the cost of a large print. You receive the printed and varnished canvas at the exact dimensions you ordered, then mount or frame it however you prefer.
Neither is automatically better. They are two different ways to use the same photo on canvas.
